  for those interested in the fall and rise of jerusalem in 587bce tel aviv university are offering a short 6 week online course through coursera in october 2014.. i have done a couple of coursera courses, they are always of the highest quality put together by scholars of whatever the subject matter is about.

  universities tend to offer these as tasters and short introductions into their specialities.. you can get the information on the following link the fall and rise of jerusalem | coursera.

  emory university are also offering a course through coursera on the bible's prehistory, purpose, and political future starting may 26th the bible's prehistory, purpose, and political future | coursera.

  I just advised the main elder in my wife's congregation to take the course and I reminded that for several months I have offered a sizable amount of money (enough for a kingdom hall in latinamerican coutries) to him or the WT itself if they can produce the research regarding VAT 4956 suppporting WT chronology. His answer so far 'No thanks, I don't want to look into things that I know are wrong" (several months ago)

  and today his answer, verbatim:

  "Ok, thanks. But regarding your money offer, I appreciate the gesture to finance more Kingdom Halls, but I personally do not participate in wagers, especially regarding spiritual matters. I hope you understand."

  I replied saying that it's not a wager, confirming that he or the WT are not under any obligation to pay anything under any circumstance. All they have to do is produce support for their chronology using VAT 4956 and I build them two kingdom halls in Africa or one in Latinamerica. That's all. I even advised him to get the WT lawyers working on this. I haven't heard from him yet. We will see.

  even though i have never been a jw, i hope just as much as many of you to bring the wt to its knees, even put it behind in the annals of history of millenarian religions.

  one thing that gets me very very upset is the abuses commited against all children raised in a jw household.

  Pedophiles

  No higher education

  Psichological damage with all that scary literature

  "No celebratons", which may have a deleterious effect in the mind of young ones

  Shunning

  Blood policy, etc

  A strong case against the WT can be made to the public through an organization that is devoted to protecting children by means of messages in the internet, signs pamphlets.

  The AAWA thing may not get much traction because most people don't care about people who belonged to whacky religions, but if you mention damage to children then the public is willing to listen. For the first time in my last two years studying the WT doctrines I feel that I have a great idea to undermine the WT growth and the spreading of their horrible message.

  I have had a great life in every sense, that's why from time to time I try to help someone who is not as lucky as I have been; I want to pay pack the blessings. However, I need to find that cause that is much greater than all the little deeds that I have done for individuals. I think this type of project is that driving force that will add more meaning to my life. I don't have the leadership skills, but I got the passion against the WT. I need people to join the idea and eventually the project

  Death to false prophets, metaphorically speaking. I know that's not the quote, but they have denounced false prophets and believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God, and the Bible contains such statement somewhere. Therefore "death to the Watchtower organization, and free the people"

  Bogus. I consume large amounts of coconut oil a day and still don't remember where I left my cell phone or the names of half of my customers. Tastes great with rice bread though.

  Don't see a big problem with that purchase. They need to house people working there for whatever interests the WT has. End of issue. Luxury? maybe, not lavish. I don't intend to minimize the WT possible misuse of funds, but this would never top my list, nor would it be a big deal even if a member of the governing body uses it as a vacation home. There's much bigger problems with this organization.

  i find it interesting that the wt is boasting about the 100 year anniversary of the kingdom in 2014, but i have never seen an explanation on how they calculate it.

  i know how to get to 1914 using the bible (ezekiel, revelation, daniel, jeremiah).

  in fact, i know all the messy stuff behind it, such as 606 bce, 537 bce, mishandling of no-zero year in the calendar, 536 bce instead of 539 bce, etc.. what i am wondering is when was the last time the wt wrote an article in the wt magazine to explain in the weekly meeting how to calculate 1914. if this year is so important, one would expect an explanation in a regular basis, but i have not seen it yet.

  My Experience and how I finally let myself see the truth

  first off - for those lurkers who feel guilty just for being on this site and reading this (even if you don't read any further, as it is your right to choose that course) i want you to know that you're not alone in what you're going through or in what you are feeling.

  if you read on, i hope my experience may be of some small help to you.. this may be long, but i'll try to organize it in a way that doesn't make it painful to read.

  Great post Joe,

  My situation is somewhat different. I was born out and I had always been out, but I married a JW. I had been going along for 18 years until I decided to do some research about the WT. Low and behold, I dislike what I learned very much. However, getting my wife out would be a huge social shock. Almost her whole family and every friend is in. To make things worse, I am just like you, not very social. So I would be ineffective at offering an alternative network of friends to my wife. I guess the best for her is that she remains in for as long as she wants. The reason I am here, well....the site it's a bit addictive, but mainly I am here because I got two children 14 and 18 that I have to get out of the cult. Young people lives should not be sacrificed to any cult. Since you have never mentioned any children, then, just as other people have implied, just take it easy.

  If the historical Jesus was simply human, would YOU be a Christian ?

  i've been reading a lot lately about the historical jesus, and the latest archaeological findings and what a comparative, horizontal, reading of the 4 canonic gospels actually do tell us about the historical jesus and his teachings.

  pick your side, but let me ask you this, because that's the core question i have been asking myself lately:.

  if the historical jesus wasn't the son of god, but simply a human prophet with no previous super-human existence, hence, merely the "son of man", with very appealing teachings, but no previous super-human existence, hence, not "son of god" as we commonly believe as jw's, would you still be a christian?

  I am not a christian precisely because, at best, he was a good human. I don't think he was a great teacher. He got so many things wrong. "turn the other cheeK", you are poor, you are blessed" " forgive 77 times", "love your enemies", etc. etc. Don't take me wrong, I appreciate patience, forgivness, tolerance. I just have to put a limit before I look stupid and people walk all over me.
